Hi guys!
Are you ready for Halloween? It’s only one week away now…
I love Halloween baking because you can go a little crazy and turn everything into monsters and vampires etc. I must say, not the bravest one around. At all. Put me in a house in the woods with windows overlooking the dark nothingness and you’ll find me piss my pants… So no, I don’t watch horror movies on Halloween. I will be watching Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie tho
What else I love about Halloween? These Mini Monsters for instance! In normal circumstances, I’d be taking these to work to share with my coworkers. Unfortunately that’s not happening this year. Should I send them a picture of them? Or would that just be cruel… You tell me
These Mini Monsters are made of 2 cupcakes stacked together and decorated with buttercream and eyes. Lots of them. Because, why not.
I must say, these Mini Monsters aren’t that easy… I would totally get it if you prefer to make a bigger cake and turn that into a monster. These things are so tiny they don’t have enough weight to stand tall. So you can’t just cover them with buttercream like a regular cake. Yes, your hands will become smootchie. Oh well… :p
What we need for 9 mini monsters
Cupcakes
- 250 g soft, unsalted butter
- 250 g caster sugar
- 4 eggs
- 250 g self-raising flour
- cupcake wrappers
- cupcake baking tin
- toothpicks
Buttercream
- 250 g soft, unsalted butter
- 500 g powder sugar
- 3 tablespoons of milk
- food coloring (pick any colors you like your monsters to be)
- sprinkles
- eyeballs
- piping bags
- various piping tips
How to
Mini Monster body parts
- Preheat the oven at 180°C
- Mix together butter and sugar
- Add the eggs and mix until combines
- Add the flour and give it a quick mix to make sure everything is well combined
- Line the baking tray with cupcake wrappers
- Use an ice cream scoop to fill the wrappers
- Bake for about 23 minutes
- Done? Gently push the top of the Cupcakes. If they bounce back, they’re done
- Let them cool completely
- Make pairs because you’ll need 2 cupcakes per monster
Buttercream
- Beat the butter with half of the powder sugar
- Add the other half of the powder sugar
- Add 3 tablespoons of milk and mix until fully combined
- Divide into separate bowls (depending on how many different colors you want to make)
- Add a little food coloring per bowl and mix well
- Pick your piping tips and prepare your piping bags to start assembling!
Mini Monsters
- Unwrap the cupcakes and stack 2 by 2 on top of each other. Use a toothpick to secure them. Careful tho: you don’t want your guests to swallow these… So either pick large tootchpicks you can remove after making the monsters or warn them
- Cover the little stack with buttercream as if it were a cake
- Pipe some furr on the monsters
- Decorate with eyes and accessories such as sprinkles, bones, scars, … Go crazy!
These Mini Monsters are also perfect for kids Halloween parties! BOOOOOOOOOOO
Definitely taking these to Fiesta Friday where I’ll share them with my food friends! Co-host this week is Laurena from Life Diet Health.
Have a delicious day
